The wheels of the legislature begin to whirr in to motion again as the House and Senate have their first full day together since the spring recess.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) discuss strategy at approximately 2:30p, following their weekly policy luncheons. We expect the Nuclear Security Summit down the street at the Washington Convention Center and the Supreme Court vacancy created by the pending retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens to dominate the discussion.

A group of Democratic Senators led by Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) plan to hold a press conference to discuss “Republican obstruction of President Obama’s judicial nominations.” We’ll be asking Chairman Leahy just how different current Republican tactics are from those he employed in 2006-07 to block several of President George W. Bush’s appellate court nominees.
