The two preeminent super PACs supporting Dr. Ben Carson's 2016 campaign are coming together.

In a joint announcement, Our Children's Future PAC (OCF) and the 2016 Committee, the two largest outside groups backing Carson, said they are joining forces to back the former neurosurgeon.

"This coordination between The 2016 Committee and Our Children's Future will play a key role in promoting Dr. Carson's final run to the White House," OCF head Jeff Reeter said in a statement. "With the increased visibility and energy provided by Our Children's Future, The 2016 Committee's already powerful militia will grow into an extremely strong army for Dr. Carson's advancement."

The announcement comes the same morning as a new Quinnipiac poll shows Carson now leading in with 28 percent support over Donald Trump's 20 percent, who had been leading in the Hawkeye State since July. Carson is second in the Washington Examiner's latest presidential power rankings.

While Carson's campaign itself has become a fundraising dynamo in recent months, his super PACs have not reached the fundraising stratosphere of Jeb Bush's Right To Rise PAC and groups supporting Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
