Bernie Sanders loses New Hampshire lead to Clinton

Hillary Clinton has caught up to Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire after her strong performance in the first Democratic debate.

The Suffolk University/ Boston Globe survey, conducted in the Wednesday and Thursday following the Oct. 13 debate, show Clinton and Sanders in a statistical tie, with Clinton leading 37-35.

But, among voters who actually watched the debate, 54 percent thought Clinton won, whereas only 24 percent thought Sanders outperformed her.

In the last poll to measure New Hampshire democrats, Sanders had a substantial lead over Clinton, leading her 14 points 42-28. Although Clinton led Sanders in New Hampshire in June, the Democratic socialist caught fire over the summer, gaining support from progressive liberals in the early primary state.

His sudden rise in the polls came as a surprise to many Democrats, including those on the Clinton campaign, but the switch in support following the debate could give way to a larger trend of Clinton reclaiming her position as the Democratic leader in the state. During the debate, Sanders told Clinton that voters are "sick of hearing about your damn emails!" This sentiment was echoed in the poll, as nearly 62 percent of the 500 respondents said that Clinton's email scandal doesn't bother them.
