House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, on Wednesday applauded the White House's decision to send more troops to fight the Islamic State in Syria, but said he was frustrated that the move was preceded by months of inaction.
"A more serious effort against ISIS in Syria is long overdue. Absent a larger coherent strategy, however, these steps may prove to be too little too late," he warned in a committee release Friday.
Thornberry added that the administration has been more focused on "trying to avoid a disaster while the president runs out the clock," rather than the developing an all-out effort to conquer the Islamic State.
The committee is planning to hold a hearing on Middle East strategy in the coming weeks.
