1 lingering question for the US

Gio Reyna was supposed to be the bright, young star to give the U.S. the boost it needed to make some waves in the World Cup. However, he’s been playing sparingly.

Reyna didn’t play in the 1-1 draw against Wales and came on as a sub against England in the 83rd minute of their 0-0 draw. He has 15 caps, four goals and one assist since his first call-up in 2020.

Questions about his playing time continue to linger.

Berhalter, Adams navigate through awkward press conference

United States soccer coach Gregg Berhalter and team captain Tyler Adams faced an unusual string of questions from reporters ahead of their match against Iran.

Adams was asked about discrimination against Black people in the U.S. and was swiped for pronouncing Iran as "Eye-ran" instead of "E-ran."

Berhalter faced questions about U.S. immigration and naval policy.Berhalter also apologized for social media posts that depicted the Iranian flag without the Islamic Republic emblem. Iran called on FIFA to kick the U.S. out of the World Cup over it. The posts were meant to support protesters in Iran.

"We had no idea about what U.S. Soccer put out," Berhalter said. "All we can do on our behalf is apologize on behalf of the players and the staff."
