Guinness Records, Mexico’s Favorite Pastime

In January 2012,  more than 100 residents of Monterrey, the capital of the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, prepared a 459-foot ""world's longest tamale." There were 10,000 pieces of the Mexican dish, which was 35 inches wide.  (EFE )

In January of this year, the Baluarte Bicentennial Bridge in Mexico, which is supported by 152 steel suspenders and has a central, cable-stayed span of 1,705 feet, a total length of 3,685 feet and a width of 65 feet, received a Guinness record <a href="http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2012/01/06/mexico-receives-guinness-record-for-highest-suspension-bridge/#ixzz1kJSh8xhm">certifying it as the world's highest bridge</a>. Mexican hobbyists and astronomers broke their own Guinness record last December by using a total of <a href="http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/lifestyle/2011/12/05/mexico-breaks-guinness-record-for-most-telescopes-pointed-at-moon/#ixzz1kJYeO3M5">2,753 telescopes all around the country to simultaneously observe the moon</a>, organizers of the effort reported on Sunday. In the "Reto Mexico 2011" (Mexico Challenge 2011) event and as part of the "Night of the Stars" festival, the astronomy enthusiasts at midnight on Saturday managed to break the record they had set in October 2009. Mexico was among three countries in Latin America that set a New Guinness World Record last December for <a href="http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/lifestyle/2011/12/22/latin-america-cleans-up-hand-washing-world-record/#ixzz1kJZg3qFY">the most people washing their hands at the same time</a>.
