Originally reported by KFOR News, Betty and Bob Kinder, 84 and 88 respectively, became internet sensations when this photo of them went viral after the Oklahoma City Memorial 5K on April 30.
That’s right, his hat reads “Sexy Old Fart.”
The idea to label himself came from a time when Bob wore a “Grumpy Old Fart” hat on an airplane. A flight attendant suggested the new slogan, and he said he couldn’t argue with a compliment. He ordered this custom "sexy" hat.
He and his wife have been married for 60 years, and for a couple this close, it's no wonder they crossed the finish line holding hands.
They say the secret to their long marriage is never going to bed angry and always saying, “I love you.”

Betty had open heart surgery recently to replace an aortic valve, but that didn’t stop her from doing the race. The couple had planned to complete the 5K before they knew she would need the operation. With the help and encouragement of a rehab nurse, she walked a lot to prepare.
Bob was the only one who knew why she was walking so much, because she didn’t want to worry the rest of her family. In fact, she received a few surprised phone calls from them after she finished.
The Kinders both say they plan on participating in the race again next year.
