When Emily Jordan was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2010, it could hardly have come at a worse time for the then 29-year-old and her husband.

Just before she was to undergo a radical hysterectomy, she was told she was pregnant. The couple made the excruciating decision to go ahead with the surgery even though it seemed to mean they could never have their own children.

But now, more than two years later, Emily and Mike Jordan have welcome a child — just not the way most people would imagine.

Cindy Reutzel, Emily's 53-year-old mother, underwent an in-vitro procedure that implanted an embryo made from Emily's egg and Mike's sperm.

Last week Reutzel gave birth to her own granddaughter.
