Doctors Remove Wrong Kidney From Cancer Patient

Surgeons at an Austrian hospital have admitted to removing the wrong kidney from a cancer patient, the Austrian Independent reported.

A pathologist at the clinic in St. Johann, Tyrol, confirmed the patient’s healthy kidney was removed during surgery and the infected kidney was still intact. The clinic would not comment on the current status of the 59-year-old patient.

An investigation is being conducted by local officials about a possible attempted cover-up of the incident, which comes less than six months after the clinic came under fire for amputating a woman’s healthy leg.

The doctors are currently suspended from their medical duties, and they will go on trial.
