High-quality olive oil producers and sellers recently gathered at New York's International Culinary Center to pick the world’s best olive oil.
Over 670 olive oils from 26 countries competed for the Gold, Silver and Best in Class awards at the annual event.
Australia's Cobram Estate was awarded the title of world’s best olive oil for the third consecutive year and won a total of nine awards, more than any other producer.
“The absolute key is growing fresh olives that are in excellent condition and just crushing them and nothing else,” said Cobram Estate CEO Rob McGavin.
Another Australian producer, NSW, took home two Best in Class trophies for its Alto Olives. In total, the judges named 251 award-winning olive oils. Spain –with 54 percent of their entries nabbing prizes --had the most wins, followed by those from Italy, USA, Greece and Portugal.
Judges included leading international experts who tasted over 630 extra virgin olive oils from around the world.
