Is Dairy Queen ripping off Ben & Jerry’s ‘core’ ice cream?

Dairy Queen’s new Blizzard has a sweet surprise inside.

But it’s not exactly something new.

On April 21, the soft serve–fast food chain is releasing three new “Royal” Blizzard flavors-- New York Cheesecake, Royal Oreo, and Royal Rocky Road Brownie. Diners can customize their creamy treats with a center filling of chocolate fudge, strawberry sauce, or marshmallow crème.

The concept appears to be a direct rip-off of Ben & Jerry’s popular Core ice cream line that debuted two years ago. But if ain’t broke—just add more filling.

DQ has decided it reigns supreme over all other frozen treats so the Royal Blizzard is a nod to Queen Elizabeth who turns 90 on April 21.

In other ice cream maybe-rip-off news, Baskin-Robbins recently released a Polar Pizza-- a soft-baked, round chocolate chip cookie or fudge brownie crust that's pre-cut into slices and topped with ice cream, candy bites, cookie crumbles, and other goodies all served up in a pizza box.

The Polar Pizza, which comes in four combos—Oreo Cookies ‘N Cream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter ‘n Chocolate, Jamoca Almond Fudge with Heath bar and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup—looks undeniably delicious.

But it reminds us of Dairy Queen’s Treatzza which debuted in 1995. DQ’s ice cream pie had a fudgy cookie crust but instead of just candy and cookies, customers could pile on fruit toppings like strawberries and bananas back in the day.
