Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby Mint Julep

Throw on your best hats, make your best bets, and take a sip of Woodford Reserve’s Mint Julep in honor of the Kentucky Derby this weekend! This year’s recipe was created by NYC-based mixologist Julie Renee Williams and pays homage to the queen of southern desserts, pecan pie.

WOODFORD RESERVE® 2016 KENTUCKY DERBY® MINT JULEP
Ingredients:

2 oz. Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select
0.75 oz. Toasted pecan orgeat syrup (recipe below)
Fresh Mint
Caramelized pecan crumbles for garnish
Edible copper flakes

Instructions:
Rub fresh mint around julep cup. Combine ingredients with crushed ice and swizzle in glass. Add more crushed ice, garnish with mint bunch, caramelized pecan crumbles and copper flakes.

TOASTED PECAN ORGEAT SYRUP:
Toast pecans, mix or muddle into small pieces, simmer on low heat to create a nut milk, fine strain or use a nut milk bag to get pieces out, add equal parts sugar to liquid.
