Meat Loaf: Tributes pour in for late rocker, 'had so much fun'

The musician's death was confirmed on his Facebook page by a representative Thursday night

Tributes began to pour in for legendary rock star Meat Loaf in the early hours of Friday morning after a representative for the singer confirmed he had died with his family by his side. He was 74 years old. 

"Had So Much Fun With Meatloaf When We Did ‘Dead Ringer,’ singer Cher tweeted. "Am Very Sorry For His Family,Friends,& Fans. Am I imagining It, or Are Amazing Ppl In The Arts Dying every other Day!?"

British presenter Piers Morgan called Meat Loaf one of "rock music’s all-time great characters whose seminal iconic album Bat Out Of Hell is one of the biggest-selling records in history. A wondrously talented, flamboyant, funny, outrageous and rebellious chameleon. Sad news."

Fellow Brit Stephen Fry tweeted he hoped "paradise is as you remember it from the dashboard light, Meat Loaf." The comedian also included a video of a sketch the two performed together on "Saturday Night Live" in the 1980s. 

"… he had the quality of being simultaneously frightening and cuddly, which is rare and rather wonderful …" Fry added.

MEAT LOAF, THE ‘I’D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE' SINGER, DEAD AT 74 

Actor Edward Norton also issued an emotional tribute to Meat Loaf via Twitter and shared a photo of the two from a scene in "Fight Club."

"I don’t keep pictures from films around home. But I have this one in my office in a frame bc it makes me smile every time. It’s engraved ‘Love and Hugs, Meat’ it sums him up well. He was so funny. And gentle. And warm to everyone. A sweet soul. RIP Meat Loaf."

Boy George gave "Love and prayers to all his family and close friends," adding that the rocker "once turned me upside down in a Chinese Restaurant in St Johns Wood."

English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote on Twitter: "The vaults of heaven will be ringing with rock. RIP Meatloaf. Give my best to Jim."

Jim Steinman's "Bat Out of Hell The Musical" is currently on tour in the United Kingdom.  The company behind the production said in a statement: "The company of Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell the Musical here in the UK is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of their great friend and producer, Meat Loaf. He was with us when the show first launched in London at the Coliseum and in Manchester at the Opera House back in 2016 and then came to the show at the Dominion Theatre in London on 25 July 2018. The current UK and Ireland Tour of the musical will perform this evening's show at the New Wimbledon Theatre in Meat's memory.'"

Singer Bonnie Tyler said in a tweet she was "shocked and saddened" by the rocker's death.

"He was, as you might imagine, a larger than life character with a voice & stage presence to match & is one of those rare people who truly was a one off talent and personality. Rest In Peace," the tweet continued.

Actress Tia Carrere, who acted alongside Meat Loaf in "Wayne’s World," told Fox News Digital in a statement that the effervescent performer was a thoughtful soul despite his onstage façade.

"Meatloaf had this fierce rock and roll persona and seemed so intense in his music, but anyone meeting him knows how kind and contemplative a man he was. He will be missed."
