Tom Hanks' mother dies: 'She was the difference in many lives'

Tom Hanks bid a sad farewell to his mother, Janet Marylyn Frager, on Tuesday.

He announced her passing via Instagram with a portrait captioned, “This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom! Hanx.” She was reportedly 84 years old.

The Oscar winner’s parents divorced in 1960. Hanks, 60, and his three siblings lost their father, Amos Mefford Hanks, in 1992.

Hanks’ wife of more than 25 years, Rita Wilson, shared her own tribute to her mother-in-law, writing, “This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”
