Parton began performing as a child, singing on local radio and television programs in East Tennessee. At 13, she was signed to a small label. Her first country single, "Dumb Blonde," reached number twenty-four on the country-music charts in 1967.

Dolly was born in Seviervill, Tennessee, the fourth of twelve children.
