“Good Morning America’s” Lara Spencer made a scandalous mistake on Wednesday morning when she said on the air that the sixth season of ABC’s hit series “Scandal” will be the last.
ABC renewed “Scandal” for a sixth season in April, and the network has not said when the show will come to an end.
As Spencer showed behind-the-scenes snaps of the cast at the first season 6 table read, she said “[It’s] a little bittersweet, however, because it has been said this is also going to be the final season.”
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Spencer’s conclusion sounded far-fetched, even to her co-host Michael Strahan.
“No. Who said that?” Strahan asked Spencer.
Spencer held her ground with the rumor, “Well, I’m afraid to say Shonda Rhimes… yeah.”
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Rhimes wasn’t too happy with Spencer’s comments. She immediately tweeted, “Whoa, @GMA: I never said this was the final season of#scandal. Way to make me spit out my coffee!”
Spencer corrected her mistake in a later segment and Rhimes thanked her for that.
Thank you for the correction, @LaraSpencer -- you have my back!❤️
