'Feud' Charles and Diana season halted at FX: report

FX will no longer be pushing forward on its efforts to tell the story of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX CEO John Landgraf told the outlet “As far as I know, it’s not active right now.”
The series’ second season, which was already cast, was given the greenlight in February 2017 and was expected to star Matthew Goode and Rosamund Pike as Charles and Diana.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Landgraf explained that the reason the network pulled the plug on the series was it didn’t feel the material was suitable for production.
"We did [have it cast] but we decided we didn't feel we had the material right and decided not to move forward with it," Landgraf told THR.
Showrunner Ryan Murphy was slated to return and co-write the follow-up to “Feud: Bette and Joan” along with executive producers Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}According to the oulet, Murphy spoke in 2017 about the prospect of developing the story centered on Charles and Diana and drummed up intrigue while discussing the drama the season would entail.
"Having a show called 'Feud' is interesting because ... feuds are about pain," Murphy said in April 2017. "So, Charles and Diana’s story literally begins with the filing of the divorce papers. And it’s about that pain, the dissolving of a fairy tale, particularly for Diana. It starts with the filing of divorce papers and takes you up until her death," he said.
Although the Charles and Diana story is unlikely to be told by FX, Landgraf is hopeful that Murphy will deliver another subject to the network in the future.
