Celebrities in Fat Suits

These days, most Hollywood stars are willing to go to extremes to change their appearance in the name of their craft. But when it comes to gaining and losing weight, others simply don't have the chops to do it naturally. This is when they turn to fat suits. Some are funny, some are ridiculous and some are just plain annoying. Click through to see some of the most memorable celebrity fat suits.

"Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Melissa Gorga At 115 lbs, "Real Housewife" Melissa Gorga was curious to know what it felt like to go undercover as a 415lb woman in New York City. So she donned the most unrealistic fat suit of all time and captured it all on hidden cameras for "Entertainment Tonight." How original!

Gwyneth Paltrow Paltrow annoyed us all when she whined about how hard her life was in the fat suit. "It was very strange the first time I put it on. I laughed and I cried. It was very intense. I went into public with it on, down in the lobby of the hotel where I tried it on, and people wouldn't even look at me, wouldn't make eye contact with me at all. I felt no sexual energy from men. Normally, in the film, I have all these tiny little clothes on, but when I come to the set with the suit on and feel none of that, it is palpable." Oh, hush Gwynnie.

Eddie Murphy Eddie Murphy seems to wear a fat suit for nearly all of his movies, including "The Nutty Professor" franchise (shown here), and his later film "Norbit."

Courteney Cox Of wearing her fat suit in the flashback episodes of "Friends," Cox said, "It took me about three hours get me into 'Fat Monica' makeup. But when I become her, I become the most uninhibited person in the world. I'd do this dance in front of the audience called 'the popcorn.' Made me feel like I wouldn't ever want to be fat. It's hot to be fat. And I don't mean hard. I mean hot.''

Ryan Reynolds Reynolds donned a fat suit for his role in the 2005 film "Just Friends," where he played a former geek still in love with his high school best friend. “Because it’s really hard to lose 45 pounds in an hour without cutting an actual limb off. So yeah, no, it was a labor of love though. I loved wearing that suit,” joked Reynolds.

Neil Patrick Harris For his comedy sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," Harris rocked a fat suit to demonstrate what happens to so many of us when we settle into a relationship - love weight!

John Travolta Travolta went in a drag fat suit to play the role of Edna Turnblad in the movie musical "Hairspray." That is definitely something we don't want to see again. (New Line Cinema/Courtesy Everett Collection)

Tyra Banks Banks, like Paltrow, whined about how hard it was to be "fat," saying people treated her badly when she rocked a fat suit for her show in 2005. "The people that were staring and laughing in my face -- that shocked me the most," Banks said. "As soon as I entered the store -- when I went shopping -- I immediately heard snickers. Immediately! I just was appalled and ... and ... and hurt!"
