Ever feel like your brand new retro-inspired Ford Mustang isn’t quite retro enough?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone and you can do something about it.
Missouri-based Retrobuilt Motors will convert any 2005 or later Mustang into a convincing, if not inch perfect, replica of a 1969 Shelby GT500 or Mustang GT.
The process involves replacing nearly every body panel on the car, aside from the doors, with custom made fiberglass pieces and trim, while leaving the modern mechanical parts underneath untouched. That is unless you’re really not happy with the performance of your current car, in which case the shop will be happy to oblige.
Pretty much any ‘Stang is fair game as a donor car, including the latest version of the Boss 302, and in the case of the GT500 the finished product is officially licensed by Shelby American. You can even get it in a convertible version, complete with roll hoop.
The exact price depends on the extent of the modifications specified, but runs about $32,500 on top of the price of the donor car. Not cheap, but considering a mint ’69 Shelby convertible can run upwards of $200G, maybe not a bad deal at all.
