The F-150 pickup truck is looking for some government work.
Ford has announced a Special Service Vehicle (SSV) package for America’s best-selling vehicle, targeted at police, fire, emergency and commercial fleet customers.
It’s available as a no cost option on entry level XL F-150s and adds a 220-amp alternator for electronic accessories while deleting the center console to open up the area for aftermarket equipment and adding easy clean vinyl upholstery to the back seat.

All other XL options can still be ordered on top of the package, including a choice of 5.0-liter V8 or 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engines, so vehicles can be configured to very specific organizational needs.
The F-150 XL isn’t pursuit-rated, but joins the Taurus-based Police Interceptor and Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility in the company’s law enforcement arsenal, and will go head to head with the recently announced Hemi-powered Ram Special Services Police Truck when the order book opens later this year.
