2014 Ford Daytona Prototype
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Ford has revealed the new Daytona Prototype race car it will be offering to teams competing in the United SportsCar Championship in 2014. The updated Riley Technologies car featuring new bodywork with stronger brand identity than the current car, and that goes double for what's underneath it.
Ford is switching from the current V8 racing engine to a competition version of the EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 featured prominently in many of it street cars and trucks. Built by Roush Yates Racing Engines, it promises to be at least as powerful as the old engine, but more fuel efficient, putting it in more line with the automaker's marketing message.
To prove its mettle before the season opening 24 Hours of Daytona, Michael Shank Racing is taking it to the legendary circuit on October 9th to try to break Bill Elliot's 1987 210.364 mph oval track lap record with sports car racer Colin Braun behind the wheel.
