2009 Tokyo Motor Show

The Honda EV-N concept is retro-futuristic to the extreme. The tiny two-door looks old-school, but is fully electric, and has two Segway-like unicycles in the doors for when the car is just not small or strange enough.
Bucking the green theme of the Tokyo Motor Show, Lexus' first sports car is a doozy. With a 4.8L V10 pumping out 552 horsepower, the $375,000 supercar can reach at top speed of 202 mph. Only 500 will be made, ever, so sell the house now if you want one. (AP)
Based on the decidedly un-fun Honda Insight hybrid, the CR-Z looks set to make up for its big brother's shortcomings. Inspired by the much-loved CR-X, the two-seat coupe will get more power than the Insight, as well as a six-speed manual transmission - a world's first for a hybrid. Here's hoping that's a good thing when it goes on sale in the U.S. late next year. (AP)
Nissan CEO, Carlos Goshn says the Leaf electric car will get 367 mpg when it goes on sale in late 2010. As much as we can't wait to drive it, we're really interested to see what a gallon of electricity looks like. (AP)
It's been a couple of years since Toyota made a real sports car, but the FT86 proves they haven't forgotten how, even if they needed Subaru's help to build it. The rear-wheel-drive coupe hearkens back to the company's mid-1980's Celica, which is popular today among people who compete in the sport of drifting. Technical specs are still under wraps, but the car is expected to hit the road - in Japan - in 2011. (AP)
Mazda says it's Kiyora minicar concept can get up to 75 mpg, and, surprise, it's not even a hybrid. Instead, it features one of the company's new Sky-G direct-injection gasoline engines, which have advanced timing and turn off when the car does - without the need for an electric motor to restart them - along with a new six-speed transmission that uses less lubricant for lower resistance and better efficiency. The car is a concept, the powertrain will be in vehicles by 2011. (AP)
If the Japan-only Toyota Sai hybrid looks familiar, that's because it is a stripped version of the Lexus HS250h sold here, which is a luxury hybrid version of the European Toyota Avensis. Yes, it's a small world, and at 35 mpg it's a little cheaper to drive around these days. (AP)
The silver duds make it look futuristic, but the Mitsubishi PX MiEV concept is pretty close to reality, combining a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine with a lithium-ion battery-powered electric motor. The company says that the plug-in 4x4 will "return super-low fuel consumption". What that is, is anyone's guess. (AP)
Yep, that's what it looks like. (Daihatsu)
