Police say the mother of a woman whose remains led to the discovery of 10 sets of human remains strewn along Long Island's Gilgo Beach has been found dead in her apartment.

Police say Mari Gilbert's 27-year-old daughter has been charged in her death. Her body was found around 2:15 p.m. Saturday inside her Ellenville apartment in the Catskills.

Mari Gilbert's attorney, John Ray, confirmed her death and the arrest of 27-year-old Sarra Elizabeth Gilbert.

Ellenville police said in a release on Facebook that the daughter was arraigned on murder and weapons possession charges.

The 52-year-old woman's other daughter Shannan Gilbert vanished along Ocean Parkway in 2010. Her disappearance led to the discovery of the other bodies that police believe may have been the work of a serial killer.
