PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia police are searching for whoever left a severed pig's head outside a mosque.
A caretaker at the Al Aqsa Islamic Society mosque told police he found the head when he arrived around 6 a.m. Monday.
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, prohibits Muslims from eating pork.
Police investigators say surveillance video shows someone throwing an object from the passenger window of a red pickup as it drove past the mosque Sunday night.
Mayor-elect Jim Kenney said in a statement that the bigotry that desecrated Al-Aqsa mosque "has no place in Philadelphia." He asked city residents to join him in rejecting "this despicable act and supporting our Muslim neighbors."
