Authorities hope to auction a BMW convertible that a Georgia man bought during a spending spree after $31,000 suddenly showed up in his checking account.

District Attorney Parks White tells The Associated Press that authorities are seeking to have the 2004 BMW forfeited so that it can be sold.

White said Steven Fields of Hull bought the car for $11,000 and spent more money from the windfall at a Walmart and other stores.

Hull was sentenced late last year to 10 years of probation.

The victim is another man with the same name who is in his 70s. Authorities say a teller mistakenly deposited the older man's check into the younger man's account at First Citizens Bank in Hull.
