Police say a New Jersey man fatally stabbed his estranged wife, then fled to South Carolina with the couple's two sons.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's office says a concerned family member called police to request a welfare check on 39-year-old Tracy Jordan. Responding police found Tracey Jordan dead of multiple stab wounds at her Lodi home Friday night.

Prosecutors say police then learned that Jordan's estranged husband, 47-year-old John Robert Jordan, had taken their young sons out of school .

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for Nicholas Jordan, 8 and his 7-yer-old brother Anthony.

Hours later the body of their mother, Tracey Jordan, was found in her apartment in the same town, New Jersey’s Bergen Record reported. The body was found after the woman's mother went to the apartment, knocked on the door and called police when no one answered. Jordan was identified as the victim by Marie Dejulia, who told the newspaper the victim had been dating her brother.

Authorities say Jordan was arrested early Saturday after arriving at a relative's South Carolina home  in Tracy Jordan's car. Both sons were unharmed.

John Jordan has been charged with murder and possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He remains in custody in South Carolina.

Dejulia told the Record the father took the boys out of school after telling school officials they had a dental appointment.

She said Tracey Jordan was in the process of divorcing her husband and that the divorce was expected to be finalized “either today or tomorrow.”
