Authorities say the suspect in a fatal shooting at a Georgia megachurch has changed his mind and now wants a first court appearance before a judge.

Tracy Flanagan of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said Thursday evening that 51-year-old Floyd Lester Palmer is now scheduled to appear before a judge at 11 a.m. Friday.

Palmer is charged with murder in the shooting death Wednesday of a 39-year-old church volunteer, Greg McDowell, as he led a prayer service at World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta. Palmer's relatives showed up at the jail Thursday only to learn that Palmer had waived his appearance. It's unclear why Palmer changed his mind or who his attorney is.

A former maintenance man at the church, Palmer was charged more than a decade ago with a shooting at a mosque in Maryland and was committed for a time to a psychiatric hospital.
