The Angels have brought help onboard for their pitching staff for the final week of the season.
The team announced Monday that is has acquired right-hander Mat Latos, who was released by the Dodgers last week, as a stopgap solution to the plague of injuries that has hit its pitching staff.
Latos was picked up by the Dodgers in a trade-deadline deal to be their No. 3 starter with Hyun-jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy out for the season, but he struggled with the team, posting an 0-3 record with 6.66 ERA and an opponent batting average of .323 in six appearances with the team, one of which was out of the bullpen.
The Los Angeles Times notes that Angels will only spend an estimated prorated $19,600 on the 27-year-old righty, who began the season with the Marlins.
As the move comes in September, Latos will not be eligible to pitch in the postseason if the Angels secure a bid, but he would be able to participate in a potential tiebreaker game.
He will be a free agent after the season.
