New York, NY – San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game among National League players in the first balloting update.
Posey, the reigning NL MVP and two-time World Series champion, has earned 1,275,956 votes thus far. He set a new NL All-Star balloting record with 7,621,370 votes in 2012. Posey is trailed by St. Louis' Yadier Molina (938,911) at the catcher position.
Atlanta's Justin Upton has garnered the second-most votes overall, leading all outfielders with 1,184,249. The two remaining outfield spots currently belong to Washington's Bryce Harper (1,182,532) and Milwaukee's Ryan Braun (945,665).
Cincinnati's Joey Votto has a sizeable advantage at first base, collecting 1,044,742 votes to outdistance himself from Posey's teammate, Brandon Belt (513,371).
Another Reds player, Brandon Phillips, has received the most votes among second baseman with 1,019,240. Next closest is the Giants' Marco Scutaro with 801,754.
San Francisco third baseman Pablo Sandoval leads his position with 1,094,475 votes. New York's David Wright, whose team is hosting this year's Midsummer Classic, is second with 967,299 votes.
Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki owns a healthy margin at his position with 1,025,844 votes. Brandon Crawford of the Giants is second with 668,140 votes.
The 84th All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, July 16. Both teams will be unveiled on Sunday, July 7.
