TSN of Canada revealed on Monday that the 21-year-old was given his release so he could play for CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League.

A former first-round pick of Columbus in 2008, Filatov tallied just one assist in nine games with Ottawa, despite striking for seven goals and 12 points in 15 games with Binghamton of the American Hockey League.

In 53 games of NHL experience with the Blue Jackets and Senators, Filatov has totaled just six goals and 14 points.
