American Idol: All Eyes on Mariah Carey as Allegations of JLO Replacement Continue

As the final five battle it out on “American Idol,” the judges, too, continue their own battles as all eyes were on Mariah Carey Wednesday night due to the “bombshell scoop” that she would get replaced by Jennifer Lopez, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. 

When the semifinals began on “Idol,” an all-smiles-Carey stepped out looking refreshed, engaged and nice with both the contestants and fellow judges (she and rapper Nicki Minaj still have some tiffs from time to time).

She even took time to schmooze with her fans as she called out for two of her enthusiasts carrying large posters with messages admiring her to come down to the stage so she can meet and greet them and, oh yes, sign their elaborate posters.

But as THR reports, the diva has been a bit rebellious in the past few weeks after complaining to “Idol” producers about them cutting her off air when she is giving contestants advice.

The entertainment publication also adds that Carey was caught checking her phone during the show, but quickly put it away and returned her attention back to the “Idol” hopefuls.

On Wednesday, Fox News Latino reported that “American Idol” producers want to have “Jenny From the Block” back as a judge and want to drop Carey.

But the part-Venezuelan diva wasn’t having it, and her team threatened to sue the show’s producers if they went through with it.

According to THR, "Idol" producers are so concerned with the show’s plunging ratings that they devised a plot to get JLO back in the judging panel.

The magazine said the show’s producers are still in negotiations with Lopez to make a comeback, since she was such a popular judge during seasons 10 and 11.

The publication said the effort to replace Carey already started.

Minaj, too, is reportedly being replaced along with the entire judging panel, which includes country music star Keith Urban and veteran music producer Randy Jackson.

"This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale," a Fox spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.

THR reached out to Carey’s camp for comment, but her reps denied the allegations.

“Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe also said he had “not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season."

"American Idol” has been struggling with their ratings for the past few seasons, but last week’s ratings showed that “Idol” is slipping fast as rival singing competition show “The Voice” gains momentum.
