UN envoy warns Libya factions that airstrikes threaten landmark peace talks in Morocco

The U.N. special envoy to Libya warned the warring parties in the North African country against carrying out airstrikes while sensitive negotiations are taking place in Morocco.

Bernardino Leon said Friday after the second day of talks that airstrikes over the past two days in Libya "were a serious threat" to the ongoing talks.

"The international community will not accept such threats to the political process," he said.

For the first time, representatives of the two rival Libyan parliaments are engaging in talks to form a national unity government and come up with security arrangements.

Representatives of the rival parliaments are currently meeting with Leon in separate rooms in a conference center in the Moroccan resort town of Skhirat.

The hope is to eventually get them meeting face to face.
