Rwanda dismisses rights group's assertions of government involvement in death of top editor
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — Rwanda's government has denied assertions by an international journalists' rights group that the government may have been involved in the shooting death of a journalist.
Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo said Saturday that the government was not involved in Jean-Leonard Rugambage's death on Thursday. She calls the allegations "dishonest."
Rugambage's editor Jean-Bosco Gasasira says he was killed for linking the government to an unsuccessful June 21 shooting attempt against exiled Lt. Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa in South Africa.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Reporters Without Borders said Rugambage's death is a culmination of suppression of criticism by the Rwandan government ahead of an August national vote.
