Report: Nikolai Vasenin, Russian who fought with French resistance, dies at 95

A Russian news agency has reported the death of a celebrated Russian veteran who fought in the French resistance during World War II.
Citing a hospital official, the Tass agency said Nikolai Vasenin died Sunday, two days after turning 95. The report said he had been hospitalized since Dec. 1 in Berezovsky, a town near Yekaterinburg.
A documentary film about Vasenin will premiere in May as part of celebrations for the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II.

Vasenin was captured by Nazi German troops shortly after the 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union and sent to a camp in France, but he managed to escape and join the resistance fighters.
After the war, he returned to the Soviet Union and spent 15 years in a labor camp.
