Police federation: UK police need stun guns because of increased terror threat
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The head of Britain's Police Federation says all front-line officers need to be equipped with stun guns because of the rising terror threat.
Chairman Steve White told British news outlets Saturday that terrorists have turned to long-wolf style tactics that can bring terrorism to virtually any town or city.
He cited the 2013 murder of soldier Lee Rigby in by two al-Qaida inspired extremists using a meat cleaver and knives as an example of the risk.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}White says the threat level against police has been raised two levels recently, leaving many in the largely unarmed police force vulnerable.
A limited number of police are already equipped with stun guns.
The national threat level is "severe," indicating that police and intelligence officials believe an attack is highly likely.
