Paradise Lost? Body on Acapulco Highway

In just four days, at least 31 people have been murdered in the Mexican resort city of Acapulco.

The latest was the discovery of a bullet-riddled body on a highway in that Pacific city.

The man, who has not been identified, had been shot several times. Authorities found his body under a pedestrian bridge, his shirt pulled over his face, said Fernando Monreal Leyva, director of the investigative police for Guerrero state.

Leyva said federal, state and local police planned to meet Monday with the military to consider ways to beef up security in Acapulco, where 14 decapitated men and two police officers were among the unusually high body count since Friday evening.

Based on reporting by the Associated Press.
