Mourners remember Canadian teen who committed suicide after alleged rape and bullying

Family and friends of a Canadian teen who hanged herself after she was allegedly raped and bullied for months are attending her funeral to memorialize her short life.

More than 100 people filled St. Mark's Anglican Church on Saturday to pay their last respects to 17-year-old Rehtaeh Parsons, whose family said she was photographed while being sexually assaulted in 2011 and bullied after the photo went viral online.

Rev. John Morrell noted in his eulogy that social media contributed to Rehtaeh's death, but also allowed her family to share her story.

Police had concluded there were no grounds to charge anyone in the alleged rape after an initial yearlong investigation. But authorities said earlier this week that they are reopening the case due to new evidence.
