Missile attack kills 18 in rebel-held part of Aleppo, Syrian activists say

Syrian activists say a missile attack by government forces has killed at least 18 people and wounded dozens in a rebel-held neighborhood of the northern city of Aleppo.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the surface-to-surface missile hit Aleppo's Shaar neighborhood on Monday. The Observatory says that 18 died and a wave of rockets targeted the area afterward.

The Local Coordination Committees say the missile targeted a street with clothing stores. It says 20 died and more than 40 were wounded.

It is not uncommon for activists to give different casualty figures in the immediate aftermaths of attacks.

On Sunday, rebels shelled a government-held neighborhood in Aleppo killing 14. The city, once the commercial center of Syria, has been divided since 2012.
