Judge: Alleged UK terror gang face trial in 2012
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A British judge says nine men accused of plotting terrorist attacks on London landmarks including the Houses of Parliament and the U.S. embassy will stand trial next year.
Justice David Calvert-Smith told a hearing on Friday that the group — rounded up in raids on London, the central England city of Stoke-on-Trent and Welsh capital Cardiff — will likely face a full court hearing in Jan. 2012.
The men are charged with conspiring to cause explosions, and preparing acts of terrorism between Nov.6 and Dec. 21.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Prosecutors alleged they had agreed on potential targets, carried out reconnaissance and tested bomb materials.
The arrests of the men followed Britain's largest anti-terror raids in two years and months of jitters over possible terror plots in Europe.
