Germany plans tighter terrorism laws to prevent travel, financing by foreign fighters
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The German government plans tighter laws to prevent foreign fighters from traveling to Syria, Iraq and other regions with the intention of joining a terror group.
The Cabinet will discuss a bill Wednesday that would make it an offense to try to leave Germany with the aim of joining the Islamic State group or other terrorist organizations.
A second measure would give authorities additional legal firepower to prosecute anyone who funnels even small amounts of money to terrorist groups.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The bill, seen by the AP Tuesday, would still need to be passed by Parliament before it becomes law, which would bring German regulations in line with a 2014 U.N. Security Council resolution.
Some 600 people have traveled from Germany to fight in Syria or Iraq.
