George Zimmerman’s wife of six years, Shellie, has filed for divorce.

Fox35 in Orlando broke the news Thursday afternoon after George Zimmerman’s brother, Robert, told them the couple was ending their six-year marriage.

Ms. Zimmerman's attorney Kelly Sims confirmed the news to the Associated Press.

The filing follows weeks of speculation after Shellie Zimmerman hinted in an interview that she was considering the move, saying she and her husband had been experiencing a strained relationship during and immediately after his trial in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

While George Zimmerman was acquitted for second-degree murder in July, his wife pleaded guilty of perjury for lying about the couple’s finances following his arrest for the fatal shooting in Sanford, Florida, in 2012.

A day after the plea, she told ABC's "Good Morning America" she wasn't sure she wanted to stay married. ABC first reported the divorce Thursday.

She said the couple lived "like gypsies" after George Zimmerman was released on bail, spending nights in a 20-foot trailer in the woods.

After reports of the impending divorce came out, Robert Zimmerman Jr. took to Twitter to comment on the split and asked people to “Pray 4 them.”
