Gang suspects in Kazakhstan killed in gunfight
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Prosecutors in Kazahkstan say police have killed two men in a gang involved in the deadly shooting earlier this week of a law enforcement officer.
An official statement said government forces surrounded the three-man group Saturday in a house in the western city of Aktobe.
The statement said two were killed and one captured in a gunfight that ensued after the men refused to give themselves up. No police were killed.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Prosecutors offered no specific details on the group's affiliations.
Aktobe was the site last July of a shootout between suspected Islamist extremists that left nine militants and four police officers dead.
This former Soviet nation has been largely untroubled by Islamist-related violence, but last year saw an anomalous spike in attacks that authorities tied to radical organizations.
