Fresh Start For Sandy Hook Students In New School Year

It is back to school time. And for the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School, it is an opportunity for a fresh start.
On Tuesday the students from the Connecticut school where 20 first-graders and six educators, including heroic teacher Victoria Soto, were killed in December are returning to classes in a neighboring town.
The Sandy Hook Elementary School students are being bused from Newtown to Monroe, where a former middle school was renovated for them shortly after the shooting.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}As FOX CT reports, the 400 or so Sandy Hook students will see increased security on campus when they head back to class.
Newtown’s first selectwoman says security has developed into a three-phase plan, including police operating on an overtime budget and covering all the elementary schools along with a long-term plan that would create a new position called a school safety officer or SSO, which would provide an armed officer in all schools.
While the Sandy Hook School has its own separate security plan, the superintendent of schools declined to specifically talk about it.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Sandy Hook students are starting their first full school year since the Dec. 14 shootings. Twenty-year-old Adam Lanza shot the 26 victims and killed himself, after fatally shooting his mother at their Newtown home. The motive remains unclear.
Town voters will be asked in October to approve plans to demolish the school where the massacre occurred and build a new one on the same property.
