Explosion ejects manhole cover, hurts 5 in Brazil
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}An iron manhole cover ejected by an underground power explosion soared feet into the air and then smashed into a taxi, injuring its driver in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
A police officer says that four passers-by also received minor injuries following Friday night's explosion in a network of power transmission lines and gas pipes.
The officer says that the blast hurled the manhole cover several feet (meters) into the air.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media.
The official says it appears that the blast was caused by a short-circuit.
