Controversial cartoons published by Charlie Hebdo

The last tweet from French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo -- before the shooting at their offices -- depicts Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The tweet read "Best wishes, by the way." The text in the cartoon reads "Greetings from al-Baghdadi as well" and "…and especially health.”

The offices of Charlie Hebdo were firebombed in November 2011 after the publication featured this cartoon of Prophet Muhammed on its cover. The text reads "100 lashes if you don’t die of laughter!"

In 2006, Charlie Hebdo republished cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed that were printed in a Dutch magazine.

Charlie Hebdo republished these 12 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed that originally ran in the Danish publication Jyllands Posten. Islam forbids any image that attempts to portray its most important prophet.
