Cameroon residents kill suspected Central African Republic rebels during kidnapping attempt
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A local official says residents in eastern Cameroon killed "several" suspected fighters from Central African Republic who were trying to carry out a large-scale kidnapping.
Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua said the incident occurred late Saturday night near the border town of Garoua-Boulai. He said 15 heavily armed men initially seized eight people before the residents attacked. The eight would-be hostages were released, several fighters were killed and two are being held by the population.
Earlier this month, fighters from Central African Republic attacked a bus near the border, kidnapping 16 people including local politicians and clergy.
