Utah man accused of biting off chunk of man's ear

A 31-year-old man from Clinton has been charged with felony mayhem after he was accused of biting off part of a man's ear in a fight.

Charges filed against Colin Wheeler Wednesday include misdemeanor propelling a substance at a peace officer for reportedly spitting on the officer driving him to jail in a patrol car.

Police responded to a fight at a Maverik gas station in Clinton early Saturday morning and found a man with a two-inch-by-1/8-inch chunk of his ear missing. Wheeler told police he bit the man to defend himself against unwanted sexual advances.

When the officer arrested him and started driving, Wheeler reportedly spit through the patrol car's cage three times.

Wheeler's attorney Michael S. Edwards didn't immediately return a request for comment Thursday.
