Tropical Storm Javier forms off Mexico's Pacific coast

The National Hurricane Center says that Tropical Storm Javier has formed off Mexico's Pacific Coast.

Forecasters said Sunday that Javier had sustained winds of about 45 miles per hour and was located about 55 miles west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. The storm was moving west-northwest at about 10 miles per hour.

A tropical storm warning is in effect in Mexico from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes. A tropical storm watch is in effect from the southern part of the Baja California peninsula to Santa Fe.

Forecasters say Javier should pass over or near the southwest coast of Mexico later Sunday and approach southern portion of the Baja California peninsula on Monday. Heavy rains of between 4 and 8 inches are expected along with high winds.
