The Latest: New Charges filed in foster care sex abuse case

Prosecutors have filed new charges in the case of a suburban New York man accused of sexually abusing foster children.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}An indictment unsealed Thursday alleges another child was victimized by Cesar Gonzales-Mugaburu (Gon-ZAH'leyz Moo-gah-BOO'-roo). It also alleges new crimes committed against two children named in a prior indictment.
An attorney for the Ridge, Long Island man pleaded not guilty on his behalf in a court appearance in Riverhead. The attorney tells reporters the allegations of sexual abuse are lies being told by the alleged victims.
Prosecutors have said at least seven foster children were abused by Gonzales-Mugaburu. Suffolk County District attorney Thomas Spota says statute of limitations laws prevent filing additional charges involving other children.

A prosecutor says a special grand jury has been empaneled to investigate New York's foster care system. This follows the arrest of a Long Island man accused of sexually abusing foster children.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota (Sp-OH-tah) tells The Associated Press the grand jury has been meeting since Aug. 17.
The grand jury is looking into "all the facts" surrounding the Cesar Gonzales-Mugaburu (Gon-ZAH'leyz Moo-gah-BOO'-roo) case. That includes additional possible crimes by the defendant.
The Ridge, New York, man was arrested last winter on charges he sexually abused seven children in his home on Long Island. He has pleaded not guilty.

Spota says "multiple agencies" are being examined in the grand jury probe.
