A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with a chaotic Philadelphia traffic stop that ended with a state trooper shot and a school bus engulfed in flames.

Giovanny Cotto is charged as an adult with criminal attempt to murder and other charges. Police say Cotto was in a car stopped for an expired registration on Tuesday morning and traded gunfire with police during a chase that ended when his car hit a bus and both burst into flames.

Thirty-one-year-old Trooper Patrick Casey was shot in the shoulder.

The teen's father, Hector Cotto, says his son is "a good kid" who "made a wrong decision."

He says "no matter what happened, I'm going to be there for my son."
